RURAL PLOT

2.1 hectares in Ayamonte, Huelva, Spain

Set in a completely unspoilt and idyllic part of the countryside, 15 minutes outside Ayamonte and bordered by the Arroyo Pedraza (a seasonal stream) on one side and by an ancient and historical cattle droving track (via pecuaria) on another. Well planted with a variety of mature eucalyptus trees and local umbrella pines, the land is also covered in the spring with wild flowers and shrubs such as lavender, cistus, orchids and chamomile. As well as the flora, there is also local fauna and it is a bird watchers paradise with golden orioles, nightingales and bee-eaters all having been seen and heard. The ruin is an unremarkable concrete and rendered brick structure which once served as a rural school for the children of local farmers and agricultural workers.
